We became a Community Partnership Library on Friday 6th November 2015,  our first day open was Tuesday 10th November 2015, but our official opening took place on Tuesday 17th November 2015. Our opening was conducted by Councillor Mr Ernie White.

Mr. Ernie White was the County Councillor for Stoney Stanton and Croft. He was elected in 1975 and was still a serving member. A mark of the huge respect that he was shown, not only from colleagues, but also from his electorate, was the fact that he had been re-elected a record eleven times. Ernie was also a former District Councillor, only stepping down in 2015 when he decided it was time to give up some of his many commitments following illness. He had served twenty years with Blaby District Council. He had been Leader of both Councils during this period.

Mr. White had supported the parish and Parish Council through his roles of County and District Councillor for over 40 years. Ernie had been involved in most of the major projects within the village. The majority of funding for the refurbishment of the old school to become the Village Community Hall was obtained through a FLAG grant in 2006 due mainly to Ernie assisting with the negotiations at County Hall. He assisted with the initial negotiations between the Leicestershire Education Department and the Community Association when the County Council withdrew funding for the Community Centre at the School and supported the Parish Council during the upgrade of Carey Hill Park and Section 106 funding. He was instrumental most recently in getting volunteers to carry out the work and materials to construct the community footpath down Stanton Lane. Other notable projects were traffic calming in New Road, waiting restrictions in Long Street and many others too numerous to mention.

Ernie White was a man of integrity, a dedicated, hard-working councillor with a strong sense of community.

He put his village and patch above everything.

He will be sadly missed by everyone, but he leaves behind a legacy from which the whole village will benefit now and in the future.
